Xiaomi's bargain laptop hits pre-order

Xiaomi laptop
Xiaomi's first ever laptop has hit pre-order, and it could well be the bargain of 2016.

That's quite a big claim, of course, given that 2016 has only just begun. But the reveal of Xiaomi's much-anticipated entry to the laptop market shows an extremely capable device for a scarcely believable price.
Chinese import website Bang Good has put the as-yet-unnamed 'Xiaomi Ultrabook' up for preorder at just £490.50. You can get cheaper laptops, of course, but not with these specs.
The laptop has a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 display, and is powered by an Intel Core i7 CPU. It also has a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M GPU and 8GB of DDR3 RAM.
On the connectivity front you get two USB ports, an HDMI port, a multi SD card reader, and a mysterious long-and-thin port that could (as pointed out by TechRadar) point to a docking station.
Interestingly, the Xiaomi laptop doesn't run on Windows 10, but rather Linux. This would appear to be a cost-cutting measure.

All of this is housed in a premium-looking wedge-shaped aluminium chassis that bears more than a passing resemblance to the MacBook Air. Xiaomi has become infamous for 'borrowing inspiration' from Apple in its smartphone designs, and it appears to be doing exactly the same with its first laptop.
All-in-all, Xiaomi's first laptop looks to offer almost-top-end specs for a low-end price. We'll be looking out for the official launch and final confirmation of these specs with eager anticipation.
