There’s a new HTC phone launching on September 20, but it’s not the Google Pixel. So what is it?
HTC has announced a launch event for a new smartphone, set to take place on September 20 at 08:00 (BST). Just like the HTC 10 reveal, HTC will be streaming the event live here, so you can follow the action as it happens. It’s expected that we’ll finally see the launch of the HTC Desire 10, which is part of the less well-known ‘Desire’ series. It’s a mid-range line-up that generally features affordable (read: plasticky) phones with middling specs. That’s no bad thing, as even mid-range hardware in 2016 is fairly powerful. Do any of us really need flagships anymore?
So what should we expect? Well, according to prominent leaker Evan Blass, HTC is planning to show off two handsets: the Desire 10 Pro and the Desire 10 Lifestyle.
Meanwhile, HTC is trying to push the #BeEdgier hashtag, which tells us very little. Maybe we’ll see a curved Samsung-style ‘Edge’ display. Maybe it’ll just be a metal trim. The image sent out with the invitation shows gold edging, so maybe the side of the phone just looks really nice.
What we’re more sure of is that the phone launching on September 20 isn’t the Google Pixel. Google’s upcoming HTC-built phone (the Nexus replacement) is currently pegged to arrive on October 4, and will likely involve a Google-led event. Sorry for the wait, folks.
